Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has issued a stern warning to former President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing him of attempting to influence the 2027 General Election by endorsing an opposition candidate to challenge President William Ruto — a move he cautioned would be politically costly and ultimately futile.

Speaking during a public engagement on Sunday, Duale said the former Head of State should refrain from what he described as behind-the-scenes political engineering, warning that any attempt to mobilise opposition figures against the President William Ruto-led regime would be firmly resisted by the ruling coalition.

According to Duale, the so-called political “project” involves Uhuru backing a single opposition figure in a bid to shape the 2027 race, a strategy he likened to efforts made during the 2022 General Election that failed to deliver the desired outcome.

“In 2022, you had a project, and in 2027, I am seeing another project taking shape. There is no problem, but we will defeat that project just like we did in 2022,” Duale said, in remarks that carried a clear warning tone.

The Health CS argued that such political manoeuvres were motivated by resistance to President Ruto’s agenda of equitable resource distribution and inclusive development.

He claimed that the current administration’s push to spread infrastructure and public investment across all regions has unsettled sections of the former political establishment accustomed to what he termed “shareholding politics.”

Duale cautioned that attempting to use opposition leaders to undermine the government’s development agenda would only deepen political divisions and distract from issues that matter most to Kenyans.

He insisted that President Ruto remains focused on uniting the country and delivering tangible results, regardless of early campaign strategies being deployed by his critics.

He further warned that Kenyans are unlikely to be swayed by elite endorsements, arguing that voters are more concerned with service delivery, economic recovery, and national cohesion than political alignments crafted behind closed doors.

Duale’s remarks come amid rising speculation about Uhuru’s growing engagement with opposition figures ahead of the 2027 polls.
