President William Ruto has issued a firm warning to members of the security services, urging them to respect citizens and uphold professionalism while carrying out their duties.

Speaking during a public function, the Head of State strongly condemned incidents where security officers have been accused of harassing, intimidating, or using excessive force against ordinary Kenyans.

“Wacha kusukuma wananchi,” the President said in a stern tone, reminding officers that their primary role is to protect citizens, not to mistreat them.

He emphasized that Kenyans deserve dignity and respect, regardless of their social status, political affiliation, or location.

Ruto noted that the government has invested heavily in modernizing the security sector through better equipment, training, and improved welfare.

However, he cautioned that these investments would be meaningless if officers fail to demonstrate discipline and integrity in their daily operations.

According to the President, professionalism must be the hallmark of every security agency in the country.

He further stressed that the relationship between citizens and security officers should be based on trust and cooperation.

When officers abuse their power, Ruto observed, they damage the reputation of the entire security apparatus and weaken public confidence in state institutions.

The President also directed senior commanders to take responsibility for the conduct of their officers. He warned that any member of the security services found engaging in brutality, corruption, or harassment would face strict disciplinary action, including dismissal.

Ruto’s remarks come at a time when public debate around police conduct and accountability has intensified.

Human rights groups and civil society organizations have repeatedly called for reforms to curb abuses and promote transparency within the security sector.

Many Kenyans have welcomed the President’s tough stance, viewing it as a positive step toward restoring respect between law enforcement agencies and the public.

Others have urged the government to ensure that the President’s words are translated into concrete action.

As the country continues to pursue peace, stability, and development, President Ruto reiterated that a disciplined and people-centered security service is essential. “Our officers must remember they serve the people of Kenya,” he said, “and they must do so with honor.”
