Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has claimed that National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula will not be part of anticipated political negotiations between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a radio interview on Thursday, March 26, 2026, Wamalwa asserted that President William Ruto is focused on forming a future UDA–ODM alliance government, effectively sidelining Ford Kenya from any meaningful role in the discussions.
Wamalwa pointed to growing tensions within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, particularly remarks by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, who has urged smaller affiliate parties to dissolve and join UDA or risk exclusion from future power-sharing arrangements.
According to Wamalwa, such sentiments signal uncertainty over Ford Kenya’s place in the coalition.
He dismissed Ford Kenya’s resistance to folding into UDA as “the kicks of a dying horse,” suggesting the party is struggling to maintain political relevance.
“In 2027, it is going to be UDA–ODM talks. Moses Wetang’ula will not be included anywhere,” Wamalwa stated, adding that the Luhya community risks missing out on national political bargaining power.
The former Defence Cabinet Secretary further urged the community to rally behind DAP-K as a viable political alternative capable of safeguarding its interests.
Meanwhile, political analyst Herman Manyora echoed similar sentiments, advising Wetang’ula to dissolve Ford Kenya and join UDA.
He argued that the party’s influence has significantly declined, with emerging leaders such as Edwin Sifuna and George Natembeya reshaping the political landscape in Western Kenya.
The remarks underline shifting alliances and intensifying competition as political formations begin to take shape ahead of the next general election.
