According to villagers, the tension began earlier in the week when two brothers argued bitterly over a long standing disagreement involving family land. Witnesses say the confrontation became emotional as relatives gathered to try and calm the situation.
The argument eventually ended with elders promising to organise a meeting to resolve the issue peacefully. However, what happened later that night surprised many residents.
Several villagers claim they began hearing strange screams coming from the direction of the disputed family compound long after midnight. At first, some people assumed it was just someone calling for help.
But when the sounds repeated on the following night, fear started spreading across the village.
“We heard the screams again around the same time. It sounded like someone crying out loudly and then everything would go silent,” said one resident who lives a few houses away from the compound.
The unusual situation quickly became the main topic of discussion at the local trading centre, with residents sharing different theories about what might have been happening.
