President William Ruto drew laughter and cheers during a rally in Migori after making a lighthearted remark about his stay in the region. Speaking near a deteriorating bridge that residents have long complained about, the president used humor to address the concerns raised by locals.

In his remarks, Ruto joked that people should not rush him, adding that he had no “Harry” to go anywhere. He went on to say he could even choose to spend the night in Migori and there would be little anyone could do about it.

The statement sparked loud laughter and applause from the crowd, briefly shifting the mood of the rally into a more relaxed and engaging atmosphere.

Residents had been urging the president to address the condition of the bridge, which has become a symbol of local infrastructure challenges. By responding with humor, Ruto acknowledged their concerns while maintaining a confident and approachable tone.

Political observers note that Ruto frequently incorporates humor into his speeches as a way to connect with citizens. This approach, they say, helps him appear relatable while reinforcing his authority as a leader who is attentive to public concerns.

The rally attracted thousands of attendees and also featured Junet Mohamed, who used the platform to address political competition ahead of the 2027 elections. He criticized opposition leaders, arguing they lack nationwide appeal.

Despite the light moments, local leaders emphasized the need for tangible action, calling on the government to prioritize repairing the damaged bridge. They stressed that improved infrastructure remains essential for economic activity and daily life in the region.

Ruto’s visit combined humor with political messaging, leaving many residents entertained while also highlighting ongoing development concerns.
