Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has defended the opposition over claims that it lacks a clear plan ahead of the 2027 General Election.
During a press briefing, journalists questioned Gachagua on whether the opposition is truly prepared to challenge President William Ruto, pointing out that no official manifesto has been presented to Kenyans so far.
At first, Gachagua appeared cautious and told reporters to be patient, saying the right time for releasing the manifesto had not yet come. However, as pressure mounted, he went on to explain that work is already ongoing behind the scenes.
He stated that a team of leaders and experts is currently collecting views from different groups across the country.
According to him, these teams are engaging ordinary Kenyans, listening to their concerns, and gathering ideas that will help shape a strong and inclusive opposition manifesto.
Gachagua assured the public that the final document will reflect the needs of citizens and offer clear solutions to the challenges facing the country. He said the opposition wants to present a plan that is well thought out rather than rushing to release incomplete promises.
“We are not in a hurry. We want to give Kenyans a manifesto that speaks to them,” he said.
The remarks come at a time when political activities are slowly building up as leaders begin preparing for the next election cycle. Critics have argued that the opposition is moving too slowly, while supporters believe the consultative approach will produce better results.
Political analysts note that the success of the opposition will depend on how well it organizes itself and communicates its agenda to the public.
