Junet Mohamed has responded after he was removed from a powerful position in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition and his reaction surprised many people across the country.
Instead of anger or a long statement the Suna East Member of Parliament shared a short video of himself laughing loudly and appearing relaxed about the change.
In the clip which spread quickly online Junet is seen bursting into laughter while seated with friends in a calm setting.
The laughter seemed to send a simple message to his supporters and critics alike that he was not shaken by the sudden political shake up inside the opposition alliance ahead of new battles in Kenya.
The leadership changes followed a high level meeting of Azimio officials held on February 2, 2026, under the guidance of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
During that session Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka was named the new coalition leader replacing the late Raila Odinga whose death in October 2025 left a huge gap in opposition politics across Kenya.
Other key adjustments were also announced during the reshuffle. Suba South Member of Parliament Caroli Omondi was picked as the new Secretary General taking over from Junet Mohamed who had served as one of the most visible voices defending Azimio in Parliament and public rallies for several intense political seasons before this sudden leadership change today.
A formal letter dated February 2, 2026, was later sent to Junet confirming that he had been removed from the influential post.
The notice was also delivered to the Registrar of Political Parties together with official documents outlining the new structure that places Kalonzo Musyoka at the center of Azimio planning as leaders prepare for 2027.
Despite the dramatic decision Junet appeared unfazed. Sources close to him say the laughter video was meant to mock what he believes were weak procedures used to change the coalition leadership.
He later argued that the move ignored parts of the original agreement that created Azimio before the heated 2022 presidential race that united opposition parties.
Tensions are now rising inside the coalition as allies of Raila Odinga question the direction taken by the new leadership. Kalonzo Musyoka has defended the changes and insisted they will rebuild the alliance ahead of the next general election.
For now Junet Mohamed still holds the Minority Leader seat in Parliament though more changes could follow soon as.
