Shock and sadness have engulfed Kangundo after a teacher reportedly died days after receiving a show-cause letter from his principal while admitted in hospital.

The deceased, identified as Michael Wambua, was battling a serious illness when the letter was issued, raising concerns about how the situation was handled.

According to reports, Wambua had been absent from school due to his worsening health condition.

However, the school administration allegedly believed he had absconded his duties without permission.

As a result, Elizabeth Mati, the principal of Kangundo DEB Secondary School, reportedly wrote a show-cause letter demanding an explanation for his absence.

Sources indicate that at the time the letter was written, the teacher was already admitted in hospital and fighting for his life.

Sadly, only a few days later, Wambua passed away.

Reports further indicate that the show-cause letter was later found on a table, leaving colleagues and family members heartbroken over the events that unfolded during his final days.

The incident has sparked widespread criticism from teachers, parents, and members of the public, who described the situation as unfortunate and insensitive.

Many questioned why the school administration did not first confirm the teacher’s health condition before issuing the disciplinary letter.

The controversy deepened after allegations emerged that the principal also blocked teachers and students from attending Wambua’s burial.

Sources claim that staff members were warned against attending the funeral and were allegedly threatened with disciplinary action if they went against the directive.

The move drew condemnation from the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), which termed the actions as inhumane and unacceptable.

The union accused the school leadership of intimidating the late teacher during his illness and failing to show compassion even after his death.

KUPPET officials emphasized that teachers deserve respect and understanding, especially when dealing with health challenges.
