Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has taken a firm stand against any political cooperation between the Orange Democratic Movement and President William Ruto in the Nyanza region.
Speaking amid rising political debate, Sifuna dismissed the idea that leaders and voters in Nyanza would support what he described as a broad-based government arrangement.
He made it clear that the region remains politically aligned with opposition ideals and is not ready to shift its position.
The remarks come at a time when discussions around a possible working relationship between ODM and UDA have sparked mixed reactions across the country.
Some leaders have supported the idea, saying it could promote national unity and ease political tensions. However, a section of ODM leaders, including Sifuna, have openly resisted the move.
Sifuna’s position comes amid growing divisions within ODM. While a few leaders appear open to engaging the government, others believe such a move would weaken the party’s identity and betray its supporters.
The senator has been vocal in defending the party’s traditional stance as a strong opposition force.
In Nyanza, which has long been seen as a political stronghold of former ODM leader the late Raila Odinga, the debate has drawn strong emotions. Many local leaders are cautious about any alliance that could be seen as supporting the current administration.
