Fredrick Okango has cautioned Edwin Sifuna against leaving Orange Democratic Movement, warni
ng that such a move could cost him significant political support and potentially derail his ambitions.
Speaking during a political discussion, Okango argued that Sifuna’s political strength is largely anchored within ODM, the party that has supported his rise in national politics.
According to him, stepping away from the party to pursue the presidency or even defend his Nairobi senatorial seat as an independent candidate or under another party would expose him to a difficult and uncertain political contest.
Okango noted that ODM has a strong and loyal support base, particularly in areas where Sifuna draws much of his backing.
Without that party structure and mobilization network, he said, the Nairobi Senator could struggle to maintain the momentum that helped him secure his current position.
He further suggested that political parties play a critical role in shaping electoral success in Kenya, providing not only a platform but also grassroots organization and voter trust.
Leaving such a structure, he said, could weaken Sifuna’s chances significantly if he seeks a higher office such as the presidency.
The remarks come amid growing speculation about Sifuna’s future political plans and his increasing prominence in national politics.
The Nairobi Senator has recently been vocal on key national issues and has attracted attention from both supporters and critics.
Okango maintained that remaining within ODM would give Sifuna a stronger political footing, while leaving the party could risk isolating him from the support system.
