The Kisii governor and ODM deputy party leader has claimed that Matiang'i is his project as he moved to end growing political talk in the county. Paul Simba Arati speaking in ekegusii language said he personally convinced Fred Matiang’i to return home and rejoin local politics.
He spoke on Friday in Kegati during a meeting held to comfort families of victims of a recent accident. The mood was calm but his message was firm. Arati told residents that he welcomed Matiang’i at the airport and has stood with him from the start.
The governor rejected claims that he worked with opposition figures to block Matiang’i from entering Kisii. He called the reports lies meant to create division. He insisted that his support has never changed and that he remains loyal.
Arati also took aim at some leaders now seen around Matiang’i. He said they have not helped the county in any real way. He warned that they want to benefit from Matiang’i’s name without doing the work. He urged residents to be careful when judging such alliances.
He said leadership should be about service and not quick political gain. According to him the people of Kisii deserve honest leaders who deliver results. He added that empty promises will not solve local challenges.
In a strong promise to voters Arati announced a ward by ward tour across all 45 wards in Kisii. He said he will meet residents face to face and explain what his government has achieved. He plans to speak about roads health services bursaries and youth programs.
He said this tour will give people a chance to ask questions and hold leaders accountable. He believes direct contact will rebuild trust and remove confusion created by political rumors.
The remarks come at a time when political activity in Nyanza is rising ahead of the next elections. Many leaders are trying to position themselves early. Observers say Arati’s statement could shape new alliances or deepen rivalries.
