President William Ruto has pushed back against criticism surrounding the implementation of the government’s ten-point reform agenda, warning political leaders against positioning themselves as overseers of the programme.

The head of state said the reform framework was not designed to serve the interests of individual politicians or political factions.

Instead, he stressed that the government’s duty is to the citizens of Kenya who expect progress from the commitments made under the plan.

Ruto’s remarks appeared to be directed at critics within the opposition and leaders allied to the broad political cooperation arrangement.

Among those who have recently questioned the progress of the agenda is Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who has been vocal about the need for accountability in the implementation of the reforms.

During his remarks, the president indicated that some leaders were attempting to portray themselves as supervisors of the ten-point agenda despite not being part of the government structures responsible for executing it.

He maintained that the government did not make its commitments to specific individuals or political offices but to the people of Kenya.

The president explained that the reform agenda remains a government programme designed to guide policy and development priorities. According to him, responsibility for delivering the commitments lies with institutions in government that are mandated to implement national policies.
