Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has dismissed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s renewed push to rally political support, saying the Constitution bars him from holding or seeking public office after his impeachment.

Kioni’s statement came just hours after Gachagua strongly defended himself against claims that he was a tribal leader.

In an interview on Citizen TV’s The Explainer Show on Monday night, Gachagua accused President William Ruto of fueling negative narratives against him following their bitter political fallout.

According to the former DP, the “tribal leader” label was carefully designed by Ruto’s close allies to isolate him politically and weaken his influence in the Mt. Kenya region.

Gachagua said the narrative had nothing to do with his leadership style but was instead a political weapon to finish him.

Jeremiah Kioni, however, welcomed Gachagua’s political shift, noting that he has become one of the most vocal critics of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Kioni recalled that Jubilee had previously warned Gachagua that his blind loyalty to President Ruto would eventually harm both him and the Mt. Kenya region.

“Our fight with Gachagua was never personal. We were warning him about the suffering Kenyans were facing and how Ruto’s administration was worsening it,” Kioni said.

“He refused to listen and instead insulted us. Today he has realised the truth.”

Kioni went further to stress that impeachment carries a permanent consequence under the Constitution.

He argued that Gachagua’s efforts to rebuild his political base were misguided since the law already declared him unfit to hold any public office.

“Once impeached, you cannot start galvanising people behind you. The Constitution has already said you are unfit to hold public office or lead people in any direction,” Kioni stated firmly.

Despite the legal barrier, Gachagua has in recent months positioned himself as one of the fiercest critics of President Ruto.
