A fresh political debate has emerged over the future of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, following conflicting views from two well-known analysts.
The discussion started after Makau Mutua claimed that Sifuna’s political career is coming to an end. Mutua said the senator is losing influence and may soon become irrelevant in Kenya’s politics.
However, political analyst Herman Manyora disagreed strongly with this statement. He said it is not Sifuna who is “finished,” but rather the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party that is weakening.
Manyora argued that ODM is no longer as strong as it used to be and is struggling with internal conflicts.
His remarks come at a time when the party is facing leadership challenges and uncertainty about its future, especially after the long dominance of Raila Odinga.
There are also concerns about who will lead the party going forward. Some critics have questioned whether leaders like Oburu Odinga can unite the party and solve the ongoing disputes.
Despite the criticism, Sifuna remains an active and vocal leader. He continues to speak on national issues and still holds strong support, especially among young and urban voters.
The exchange between Mutua and Manyora shows the bigger struggles within Kenya’s opposition politics. It highlights the fight for influence, leadership, and direction as the country slowly moves toward the 2027 general elections.
As things stand, both Sifuna and ODM are under pressure, but their political future is still uncertain.
