Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has broken his silence on claims that he is a tribalist.

Speaking during a live broadcast on Citizen TV, he accused some of President William Ruto’s close allies of spreading false stories about him.

Gachagua specifically mentioned Farouk Kibet, Oscar Sudi, and Kimani Ichung’wah as the main people behind what he called a “planned smear campaign.”

“These allegations are lies. Calling me a tribalist is not only wrong, but it is also meant to hurt my reputation,” he said.

“I have worked for this country honestly, and I will not allow anyone to twist the truth about my leadership.”

His address comes at a time when there is growing tension within the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

Gachagua has increasingly voiced criticism against some government actions, calling them “empty leadership without results.”

His interview, which trended online under #AskGachagua, received mixed reactions.

Supporters praised his courage, while critics questioned whether he has other political motives.

Earlier, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen warned that sharing clips from Gachagua’s speech could lead to arrest due to national security concerns.

Despite the warning, Gachagua remained firm.

“Let them arrest me. I will not stay silent. Kenya belongs to all of us, not just a few people,” he said.

Political analysts say Gachagua’s speech could mark a turning point in Kenya’s political scene.

With growing public concern over the economy, governance challenges, and corruption scandals, his statements may strengthen his role as a vocal figure within his party.

Gachagua’s address also hinted that he intends to continue defending his record and values, positioning himself as a leader who stands against what he calls “political sabotage.”
