Signs of a possible shift are emerging within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after the faction linked to Edwin Sifuna reportedly indicated willingness to reconsider its hardline position toward the rival “Linda Ground” camp.

The development follows sustained internal pressure within the party, where competing blocs have been at odds over leadership structure, reform demands, and direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.

According to emerging reports, the “Linda Mwananchi” aligned group is now open to dialogue with the faction associated with senior leader Oburu Oginga—but only under specific conditions.

Central among their demands is the call for fresh internal elections within ODM to reset the party’s leadership framework.

Leaders within the Sifuna-aligned camp argue that internal legitimacy is key to restoring trust. They maintain that prolonged leadership without structured renewal has contributed to growing dissatisfaction among members and supporters.

Godfrey Osotsi, a key figure within the group, has publicly emphasized that internal elections are a non-negotiable step toward reconciliation.

According to him, only a transparent process that allows members to choose their leaders afresh can heal the current divisions.

The faction has also raised concerns about continuity in leadership roles, with some members questioning the extended influence of certain senior figures.

However, these sentiments remain politically sensitive and have not been formally adopted as party-wide positions.

At the same time, senior ODM leaders such as Anyang' Nyong'o and James Orengo are said to be involved in behind-the-scenes efforts to calm tensions and encourage dialogue between the rival camps.

The “Linda Mwananchi” group has also claimed to have growing influence across multiple counties, a development they say strengthens their call for reform and internal restructuring.

They argue that the party must modernize its internal democracy to remain competitive in future elections.

On the other side, the “Linda Ground” faction insists on maintaining the current leadership structure, arguing that stability is essential during a politically sensitive period.

They caution that abrupt changes could weaken ODM’s cohesion at a time when national alliances are still evolving.

Despite the differences, the recent softening of tone from Sifuna’s camp suggests that internal negotiations may be gaining momentum.

However, significant gaps remain between the two sides on issues of leadership, accountability, and party direction.
