A political message from Junet Mohamed has put Babu Owino back at the centre of a heated ODM debate, after the Suna East MP claimed Babu called him while crying and urged him to return to the party.

Junet said the conversation was emotional, describing Babu as crying “like a three-year-old child.”

He then delivered a political appeal: if Babu wants to become Nairobi governor, he should return to ODM and allow the party to help him pursue that ambition.

The remarks immediately raise questions about Babu’s political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election. Babu has been associated with the emerging Linda Mwananchi movement alongside Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, while ODM continues to experience internal political battles over its future and leadership.

Recent reports have also documented calls for Babu to reconsider his alliances and return to ODM.

Junet’s message is therefore more than a simple invitation. It touches directly on Babu’s long-standing ambitions in Nairobi, where the Embakasi East MP has positioned himself as a potential gubernatorial contender.

The emotional description of the alleged phone call is likely to attract attention. Many people were left talking about what could have happened during the conversation, especially because the appeal came from a senior ODM figure.

The incident sparked reactions online as Kenyans discussed whether Babu should reconsider his political path.

Supporters appeared divided, with some focusing on the importance of party structures while others continued to watch the growing influence of Linda Mwananchi.

What happened next surprised many as the conversation shifted from Babu’s emotions to his political future.

For now, Junet has placed ODM’s door open for Babu, but the decision remains with the Embakasi East MP.
