Cherargei made the remarks while discussing the political competition expected in Mt. Kenya ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He argued that DCP would face challenges in building influence in the region, where several political groups are seeking support.
“We have Ndindi Nyoro pushing the wheelbarrow,” Cherargei said, according to a post shared on Facebook.
The reference comes as Nyoro has changed his political position after leaving the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
The Kiharu lawmaker announced in July that he was no longer a member of UDA and said he was consulting before deciding his next political direction.
Nyoro later confirmed on August 17 that he had joined the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK), which he said had joined the opposition. He also said he had consulted several opposition leaders before making the move.
Nyoro was previously a prominent supporter of President William Ruto and played a major role in the Kenya Kwanza campaign before the 2022 General Election.
His departure from UDA has therefore added another political dimension to the contest for support in Mt. Kenya.
Cherargei’s remarks appear to place Nyoro at the centre of the wider political contest over the region. However, the actual level of support for different parties and leaders will only become clearer as the 2027 election approaches.
DCP has been seeking to expand its political presence, while other parties and political formations are also positioning themselves ahead of the election.
The Mt. Kenya region remains an important electoral bloc, and political leaders are expected to intensify mobilisation and public engagements as the election draws closer.
