The political chessboard is heating up as discussions emerge over whether former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka should continue depending on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to deliver Mt. Kenya votes in the lead-up to the 2027 General Elections.

The debate has gone viral on social media, with Kenyans weighing in on strategy, loyalty, and regional influence.

On a recent Facebook post, netizens dissected Kalonzo’s political positioning and the possibility of leaning on Gachagua for Mt. Kenya support.

Akira argued that the smartest move for Kalonzo is to back President William Ruto’s re-election in 2027, positioning himself for a strong bid in 2032, suggesting that Mt. Kenya might naturally favor Ruto.

Ochy added that Kalonzo should diversify his appeal across Kenya and not put all his hopes on Mt. Kenya, given that the region appears solidly behind Ruto and Prof Kithure Kindiki.

Other Kenyans pointed out that Kalonzo still enjoys a stronghold with Kamba votes. Alfred noted that unity within the Kamba community and the trust they place in Kalonzo could produce a strong win if other communities rally behind him.

Meanwhile, Yusra cautioned that Mt. Kenya’s support is aligning with Kindiki, warning Kalonzo against being misled by Gachagua into opposition alliances that may not favor him.

Political analysts suggest that while Gachagua wields influence in Mt. Kenya, relying solely on him could backfire for Kalonzo if the region’s political winds continue leaning toward UDA and its allies. Building a pan-Kenyan coalition might be the safer bet for the former Vice President.

The social media debate shows that voters are no longer passive observers; they are actively analyzing alliances and questioning strategies.

Kalonzo’s next moves could either cement his standing as a national player or limit him to his ethnic base.

As the 2027 elections loom, all eyes remain on whether Kalonzo will chart an independent course or continue leaning on Mt. Kenya powerbrokers like Rigathi Gachagua.
