This Christmas in Kenya was tough. People were thinking about Raila Odinga, and old videos of him popped up all over social media.

One video, a Christmas message from before, really got to people. In it, Raila talked straight about how hard things were in the country's economy.

He knew a lot of families couldn't celebrate like they wanted to. He'd talked to folks who said they were skipping the holiday because they just didn't have the money.

He really seemed to get what Kenyans were going through every day, and that's what people miss.

Raila also told people to be smart during the holidays. He warned against going overboard and said being too reckless can cause problems.

He asked drivers to be careful, because bad driving can turn a party into a disaster. He was calm, strong, and real – which is how most people saw him.

This Christmas felt different because it was the first one without Raila since he passed away. Kenyans from everywhere shared memories and messages about him online.

Lots of people said he was a brave leader, like a dad to them, and someone who stood up for those who didn't have a voice. Others said it hurt to hear him talk again, knowing he was gone.

Raila was buried back in October in Bondo Siaya County. Leaders and regular folks from all over came to say goodbye.

Pictures of him giving Christmas treats to kids from years ago also showed up, reminding people that he had a heart.

Thinking about what he said and did, it's obvious that Raila Odinga is still a big part of Kenya. Even though he's gone, his words still help, comfort, and push the country he cared about.
