According to available reports, Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has officially thrown her hat into the ring for the 2027 presidential race.

The announcement comes following the passing of her brother, the iconic opposition leader Raila Odinga, earlier this year.

Speaking with a mix of defiance and determination, Ruth has made it clear that she isn’t just filling a family vacuum, she’s stepping up because she believes the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) needs a bold, homegrown successor to carry the torch.

For years, Ruth has been a steady force in Nyanza politics, serving as Kisumu’s Deputy Governor before her current role in the National Assembly.

While she has often been referred to simply as Raila’s sister, she’s now drawing a line in the sand.

"If ODM cannot find a suitable person to lead us to the presidency, then they should look no further. I am ready and there is nothing that can stop me," she has declared.

The timing is critical. Since the death of Raila, the party he built has been grappling with internal questions about its future leadership.

While names of younger ODM firebrands have been floated, Ruth’s entry adds a layer of continuity and deep-rooted loyalty that the party faithful may find hard to ignore.

Her message is simple that the Odinga legacy isn't just a memory, it's a mission.

She argues that her experience and connection to the party's grassroots make her a formidable contender to challenge the status quo.

Whether the country is ready for a female president or another Odinga remains a hot debate, but one thing is certain that Ruth isn't waiting for permission. She’s ready to make history on her own terms.
