A man identified as Boniza from Dar es Salaam is in deep distress after a private video of him with his sidechick surfaced online, leaving his marriage on the brink of collapse.

The married father, who has been living apart from his wife due to work, says he is still shocked and devastated after discovering that the woman he had been seeing secretly recorded him without his knowledge.

According to Boniza, he had been involved in a romantic relationship with the young woman for three years.

She was his favourite among the women he was seeing, though their relationship was marked by growing expectations he could not meet because of his marital status. He explained that they had a serious disagreement shortly before she recorded the controversial video.

The viral video shows the woman speaking boldly after an intimate moment, claiming she had “everything she needed” from the man and referring to herself as his wife—despite not being married to him. She went on to mockingly suggest that she fulfilled the role of a wife better than his actual spouse.

Speaking to East Africa News, Boniza expressed regret and admitted he never expected such betrayal from someone he believed he trusted deeply.

“My side girl and I had a high level of trust. I don’t know what went wrong. After our fight, she recorded me. If I hadn’t woken up, I believe she would have gone live,” he said.

The fallout has been severe. His wife, who lives in their rural home running small businesses and contributing financially to the community, was devastated after seeing the video.

Feeling humiliated and betrayed, she has decided to end the marriage and plans to take their children with her. Based on their religious customs, she has demanded that he send talaka (divorce) through WhatsApp.

“My in-laws are furious. I don’t know how to fix this. I just want my family back,” he lamented. He also fears the video might one day reach his children.

In a mix of sorrow and dark humour, he pleaded publicly: “My dear wife, if you ever see such a video, just know it is AI and not me.”

Boniza now says he is seeking forgiveness and hopes for a chance to rebuild what he has lost, despite acknowledging the gravity of his actions and the pain caused to his family.
