Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has reaffirmed his defiant stance amid escalating internal party tensions, stating unequivocally that he "does not fear anyone and is ready to rumble with whoever comes his way."
In a recent television interview, Sifuna, known for his outspoken criticism of the broad-based government and refusal to support President William Ruto's 2027 re-election bid, brushed aside mounting pressure from within ODM.
"He does not fear anyone and is ready to rumble with whoever comes his way," reports highlighted, capturing the senator's unyielding posture as factional rifts deepen in the post-Raila Odinga era.
The declaration comes on the heels of a dramatic 24-hour saga involving a petition to expel him from the party.
On January 5, Migori Senator Eddy Oketch filed a formal motion accusing Sifuna of gross misconduct, indiscipline, violating the ODM Constitution, and publicly undermining the party's cooperation with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Oketch demanded Sifuna's immediate suspension as Secretary General, de-whipping from parliamentary positions, and potential expulsion.
However, by January 6, Oketch withdrew the petition, opting instead for internal dialogue following consultations with party leadership, including Senator Oburu Oginga.
Advocates representing Oketch cited alignment with principles of alternative dispute resolution and the late Raila Odinga's advocacy for unity.
Despite the withdrawal, calls for Sifuna's ouster persist from other quarters.
Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has intensified demands to strip Sifuna of his Senate leadership roles, labeling his actions as "betrayal."
Similarly, voices within ODM have accused the Nairobi Senator of sabotage and drifting from the party's mainstream strategy on the broad-based government.
