Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has broken his silence following the demolition of a business linked to him, terming the incident a painful setback but vowing to persevere despite the losses incurred.
Speaking on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Wamatangi said the destruction of the property had dealt a major blow to his investments, but insisted it would not break his resolve.
In an emotional address, the governor framed the episode as a test of character, drawing from his personal background and faith to underline his determination to move forward.
“They have demolished my business, but I still have my hands and my mind,” Wamatangi said.
“After all they’ve done to me, I leave it to God. I was raised by a single mother, and it is by God’s grace that I am here. He will help me through this.”
The remarks come amid heightened political and administrative tensions surrounding enforcement actions and demolitions in parts of Nairobi, which have sparked public debate over due process, fairness, and the impact on livelihoods.
While county authorities have maintained that such actions are carried out in line with the law, critics argue that selective enforcement and political undertones have often clouded similar operations.
Wamatangi did not go into details on who he believes is responsible for the demolition or the specific circumstances under which it was carried out.
However, his statement suggested a sense of injustice, even as he avoided direct confrontation and instead appealed to resilience and faith.
The governor’s comments have since drawn mixed reactions from the public, with supporters expressing sympathy and urging calm, while others have called for transparency and accountability in matters involving public officials and property ownership.
As the dust settles, attention is now turning to whether the matter will be pursued through legal or administrative channels, and what implications it may have for Nairobi’s ongoing enforcement campaigns. For Wamatangi, the message was clear: despite the loss, he intends to press on.
