"Prepare for Heavy Rainfall,": Kenya Met Issues a 'Yellow' Warning to Residents in These Regions Throughout This Week

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued an updated weekend weather forecast indicating that while much of the country will continue to experience sunny and dry conditions, select regions should expect rainfall over the next few days.

The forecast underscores Kenya’s varied climate, where localized weather patterns can differ significantly from one region to another.

According to the department, most parts of the country will enjoy clear skies accompanied by warm daytime temperatures, creating favorable conditions for outdoor activities and travel.

However, intermittent showers and localized rainfall are expected in several counties, particularly in the central and eastern highlands.

Areas such as Murang’a, Nyeri, and parts of Meru are forecast to receive rainfall due to orographic effects, where moist air is forced to rise over elevated terrain, leading to cloud formation and precipitation.

Along the coast, residents of counties including Kilifi and Lamu are also likely to experience light rains.

These showers are expected to provide temporary relief from dry conditions that have persisted in recent weeks, especially in areas that rely on seasonal rainfall for agriculture and water replenishment.

The Meteorological Department has advised residents in the affected regions to remain prepared, noting that the rains could disrupt outdoor plans and, in some cases, transport.

Farmers are encouraged to take advantage of the anticipated moisture to support crop growth and planting activities, while also remaining alert to the possibility of temporary flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas.

In contrast, Nairobi and its surrounding areas are expected to remain largely sunny and dry throughout the weekend.

Rising temperatures and clear weather are likely to support continued social, recreational, and commercial activities within the capital.

The department emphasized that the forecast highlights Kenya’s diverse microclimates and reaffirmed its commitment to closely monitoring weather patterns.

Further updates will be issued should there be any significant changes in conditions.
