Defiant Edwin Sifuna is still fighting for his place in the ODM party, but things seem to be getting worse for him after a group of 35 party MPs gave him an ultimatum.
While the Central Management Committee met in Kilifi, another group of thirty-five Parliamentarians convened in Karen, Nairobi, and overwhelmingly approved the conclusions reached during the Central Committee meeting.
The MPs did not hold back when they demanded Sifuna to immediately leave the party and join the United Opposition faction in an interview with the media following the meeting.
The group charged Sifuna with spearheading an assault on Junet Mohamed, the party's minority leader in the National Assembly.
There are 80 elected members of the ODM party in Parliament. In advance of the general elections in 2027, 35 of them now support the wide coalition agreement and want Sifuna removed.
Sifuna's presence in ODM is intolerable because to the Central Management Committee's decision to formally start coalition talks with the ruling UDA party and the 35 MPs' subsequent support of the decision.
A National Delegates Conference will be summoned during the negotiations to formally ratify the coalition agreement, as disclosed by the CMC.
Should Sifuna leave the party now or hold off till the UDA-ODM accord is approved by the NDC?
