Muhoozi Kainerugaba is a Ugandan military officer, public figure, and is the son of Uganda’s long-serving president, Yoweri Museveni.

He has served in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and rose to the rank of General. In recent years, he has also been linked to political discussions about Uganda’s future leadership.

Uganda’s political conversation has taken a fresh turn following candid remarks, by Internal Affairs Minister Kahinda Otafiire regarding the possibility of Muhoozi Kainerugaba ascending to the presidency.

Kahinda has openly clarified that his position is not rooted in personal animosity but in political principle.

His remarks are significant given Otafiire’s long-standing role within Uganda’s political establishment and his close association with Museveni’s government.

"I do not hate Kainerugaba as a person. I simply do not want him as President of Uganda.

I respect and love Kainerugaba as the son of Museveni, but I do not support him as president, and I make that position openly and without apology,’’ Internal Affairs Minister Kahinda Otafiire's remarks.
