Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has ignited fresh debate within Kenya’s opposition politics after a sharp post on X aimed at Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

In his characteristically provocative style, Ngunyi warned Sifuna against mistaking momentary headlines and crowd energy for long-term political success.

Referring to Sifuna as the “flavour of the moment,” Ngunyi suggested that recent visibility—particularly following high-profile events in Kitengela—could be deceptive without a clear, coherent strategy.

Quoting his own maxim, “Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat,” Ngunyi framed the senator’s rise as potentially loud but fragile if not anchored in deeper political planning.

The analyst went further, sketching the internal battles that often follow political wins within ODM. He cautioned that should Sifuna succeed, he would inevitably face resistance from entrenched party interests, specifically naming Winnie Odinga, a powerful figure within the party’s inner circle.

Ngunyi also pointed to the ever-combative Babu Owino, implying that Sifuna’s path would be contested both publicly and behind the scenes.
