Amid the leadership wrangles that threaten to tear apart the giant ODM party, many would have expected Kisumu County Governor Prof Anyang' Nyong'o to have already taken sides.

The 80-year old Prof. Nyong'o has instead opted to remain silent even as the wrangles pitting ODM party leader Dr Oburu Oginga and secretary general Edwin Sifuna camp leave the giant outfit on the edge.

With the Dr Oburu Oginga camp now being called ODM Linda Ground with the Sifuna faction known as Linda Mwananchi, Prof Nyong'o remains sitting on the fence, opting not to support any camp.

For the better part of 2025, the veteran politician was the acting ODM party leader as the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was campaigning for the African Union Commission chairperson position.

Even after Raila's death, many had expected him to take over as ODM party leader. But it was not to be as Dr Oginga was installed to the position.

Once a trusted ally of Raila, Prof Nyong'o appears to be quietly preparing to be exiting the stage, perhaps in 2027.

Now serving his second and final term as Governor, Prof. Nyong'o could be about to declare that " enough is enough " after a successful political career.

At 80 years, Prof Nyong'o could opt to rest after all those years in the game, having spent 25 years in Parliament and 10 years as Governor.
