Laikipia East Member of Parliament, Mwangi Kiunjuri, has downplayed DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua's influence in Mt Kenya region, arguing that the former Deputy President’s political strength is overstated.
Kiunjuri says he would not be intimidated by Gachagua in any electoral contest and has expressed confidence that he could defeat him at the ballot were they to face off.
While signaling a possible bid for the Laikipia governorship in 2027, the Laikipia East MP has maintained that his development record gives him a clear advantage over any challenger.
“I have dedicated my life to serving the people of Laikipia. I know my work will get me re-elected,” he said during an interview on Kameme TV.
“I am sure that, when the time arrives, even if I were to compete with Rigathi Gachagua for the position of governor in Laikipia, I would defeat him,” he added.
The leader of The Service Party (TSP) stated that he remains closely connected to his constituents and is confident they would support him for any seat he seeks in the much anticipated election.
Kiunjuri is among several Mt Kenya politicians who have publicly challenged the narrative portraying Gachagua as the region’s new political kingpin.
The former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary has aligned himself with President William Ruto and has expressed optimism about the President’s chances of securing another term.
