Advocate of the High Court Joshua Nyamori has hit out at Siaya Governor James Orengo following a charged political rally held in Kitengela by a section of ODM leaders opposed to working with President William Ruto’s administration.
Speaking after the event, Nyamori claimed that Governor Orengo was engaging in activism instead of focusing on his county duties.
“James Orengo is no longer an activist. He might be making noise in the streets of Kitengela during Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi tour, but he is losing his seat as Siaya Governor,” Nyamori said.
The Kitengela rally was led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Governor Orengo among other ODM leaders.
The leaders, who have publicly opposed the broad-based government arrangement, drew a massive crowd as thousands of residents turned up to listen to their speeches.
During the rally, the leaders criticized the current political direction of the party and maintained that they would continue pushing for what they termed as protection of wananchi interests under the Linda Mwananchi banner.
Nyamori, however, dismissed the show of numbers witnessed at the event, arguing that public rallies should not distract elected leaders from delivering on their mandates.
He said Governor Orengo was elected to serve the people of Siaya and should concentrate on development and service delivery.
The remarks are likely to deepen divisions within ODM, which has recently experienced internal wrangles over its political stance and relationship with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
As political temperatures continue to rise, the focus now shifts to how the party leadership will manage the growing split between those supporting cooperation with the government and those firmly opposed to it.
