Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka today claimed that the Orange Democratic Movement ODM has split, declaring that the “original ODM” is now aligned with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Siaya Governor James Orengo and other leaders opposed to supporting President William Ruto’s administration.
Speaking during a rally in Nairobi, Kalonzo said the faction allied to Sifuna and his team represents the true spirit of ODM, arguing that the party’s decision to work with President Ruto under the broad-based arrangement had caused divisions within its ranks.
“ODM has split. The real ODM is with Sifuna, Babu Owino, Orengo and other brave leaders who have refused to join Ruto’s government,” Kalonzo told supporters. “We want them to join us so that together we can liberate this country in 2027.”
Kalonzo was accompanied by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa and other opposition figures who addressed the crowd and criticized the Kenya Kwanza administration over the state of the economy and governance.
Rigathi Gachagua said the opposition was consolidating forces ahead of the 2027 General Election, urging leaders dissatisfied with the current political direction to unite under one banner. Eugene Wamalwa echoed the sentiments, stating that the country needs a strong and focused opposition to provide alternative leadership.
The rally comes amid growing political realignments within ODM, with a section of leaders openly opposing collaboration with President Ruto’s government while others support the arrangement.
