Rigathi Gachagua was briefly interrupted by chants and dancing from residents during a public address in Bomachoge Chache constituency in Kisii County.
According to a video shared on social media, the former Deputy President had to pause his speech after the crowd reacted to his remarks about William Ruto.
In the clip, Gachagua is heard asking the audience whether they wanted President Ruto to serve as a “Tutam” or “Wantam” president, a phrase commonly used in local political discourse to suggest serving one term or two.
He reportedly said that he and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i had resolved that Ruto should be a “Wantam” president. The remarks triggered loud chants of “Wantam” from the crowd, prompting Gachagua to ask them to quiet down so he could continue speaking.
After the crowd settled, Gachagua made further allegations against the Head of State. According to the video, he claimed that files would be opened against Ruto over alleged killings, abductions, and the deaths of Gen Z protesters since 2022.
He asked the audience whether the President should be held accountable, drawing another response from the crowd.
There has been no official response from President Ruto or his representatives regarding the remarks at the time of publication.
