Former Azimio chief agent Saitabao Ole Kanchory has ignited a fierce political storm after lashing out at Mt Kenya voters following UDA’s sweeping by election victories.

In a fiery post on X shared on February 27, 2026, Kanchory harshly criticized residents of the region for continuing to back President William Ruto despite rising economic pressure and political tension.

Kanchory accused Mt Kenya voters of standing by a government he described as a disaster. He used strong language and mocked UDA’s wheelbarrow symbol, calling it broken and infected.

The remarks quickly spread online and drew hundreds of reactions within hours. Supporters and critics clashed in heated exchanges as the post gained traction across political circles.

The anger came after UDA secured wins in all four by elections held on February 26 across Isiolo, Embu and Kakamega counties.

In Isiolo South Constituency, UDA candidate Mohamed Tubi won the parliamentary seat with a commanding margin. His closest challenger trailed far behind, cementing UDA’s hold in the area.

In Embu County, UDA also dominated ward contests in Mbeere North. Duncan Muratia captured the Evurore Ward seat with a strong tally while Peterson Njeru secured victory in Muminji Ward.

The wins reinforced the party’s grip in parts of Mt Kenya where political loyalty has faced growing tests in recent months.

Even in Kakamega County, a region often associated with opposition politics, UDA claimed West Kabras Ward. Elphas Shalakha emerged victorious, signaling the party’s expanding reach beyond its traditional strongholds.

Though turnout was low, the margins were decisive and sent a clear message about UDA’s grassroots machinery.

Kanchory also targeted Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, whom he referred to by his nickname. He questioned past assurances that votes would not be stolen and hinted at internal strain within the ruling camp.

His comments reflected widening frustration among sections of the opposition struggling to regain momentum.

Political observers say the by election results strengthen UDA’s confidence as 2027 approaches. For the opposition, the losses raise urgent questions about unity and strategy.

Meanwhile, Kanchory’s outburst has deepened debate over Mt Kenya’s political direction and the shifting balance of power in Kenya’s fast evolving landscape.
