Martha Karua has brushed off the recent by-election wins by the United Democratic Alliance, saying those victories should not make anyone think the ruling party will automatically win in 2027.
Speaking on Friday during a United Alternative Government rally in Naivasha, Karua told supporters that by-elections and general elections are two very different games.
Karua said clearly that the results seen in the by-elections do not show the real mood of the country. She claimed the process was not clean and alleged that President William Ruto, who also leads UDA, pushed things to favour his side.
According to her, the opposition is already watching closely and preparing properly so that what happened in the small elections will not happen again in the big one.
In her usual tough tone, Karua warned the ruling side not to celebrate too early. She told the crowd that the real fight is coming in the 2027 General Election.
Her words excited many supporters when she declared that even if someone can interfere with a by-election, it will not be easy to do the same in a nationwide vote. She insisted the opposition is determined and ready for the bigger political battle ahead.
Karua also spoke about unity in the opposition camp. She explained that leaders in the United Opposition are planning to agree on one presidential candidate who all of them will support.
At the same time, she said they will make sure they have strong candidates in every other elective seat so that UDA faces serious competition everywhere.
Former Attorney General Justin Muturi also added his voice. He urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to end its contract with Smartmatic, saying there are still questions about the election system.
Karua and her team also asked young people to come out in big numbers during the upcoming voter registration in March.
Even with all this criticism, UDA still won all four seats in the February by-elections, and President Ruto welcomed the results as proof that many Kenyans still trust his party.
