The move came after several officials, including the Chief of Defence Forces Charles Kahariri and Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuiya, had delivered their remarks from different positions, leaving the podium available. The President’s gesture was seen as a playful nod to the formal event setup.
The event marked the completion of the first phase of the Roysambu military housing project. This phase delivered 500 modern housing units for military officers and their families.
In addition, President Ruto laid the foundation for Phase Two of the project.
The military housing initiative is part of the government’s broader Affordable Housing Programme. Through public-private partnerships, the programme aims to expand access to decent and affordable homes across the country.
The administration has emphasized that military personnel will benefit from improved living conditions, reversing years of overcrowding and inadequate accommodation.
Under the first phase, a total of 3,069 housing units are being constructed at Roysambu, Nanyuki, Gilgil, Lanet, and Mariakani. These units are expected to be completed by June. Phase Two will see the addition of 10,000 more units across military installations nationwide.
