Opposition leader Kalonzo Musyoka has claimed that President William Ruto would lose the next general election by more than five million votes, intensifying early political rhetoric ahead of the anticipated 2027 contest in Kenya.

Speaking during a public rally, Kalonzo expressed confidence that growing public dissatisfaction over the high cost of living, taxation policies, and economic challenges would translate into a significant electoral defeat for the incumbent.

He argued that the current administration has failed to deliver on key campaign promises, particularly those aimed at easing the burden on ordinary citizens.

Kalonzo, who leads the Wiper Democratic Movement and is a senior figure within the Azimio la Umoja coalition, said the opposition is reorganizing and mobilizing grassroots support across the country.

He maintained that a united opposition front would secure what he described as an “undeniable victory.”

“Our projections show that this will not be a close race,” Kalonzo told supporters. “The margin will exceed five million votes because Kenyans are ready for change.”

The president’s allies have dismissed the remarks as premature campaign talk, insisting that the administration remains focused on economic reforms and long-term development plans.

They argue that ongoing policy measures, including fiscal restructuring and agricultural reforms, will bear fruit before the next election cycle.

Political analysts note that while such declarations are common years ahead of national polls, they signal the beginning of intensified political positioning.

With more than a year before formal campaigns begin, both government and opposition leaders appear to be consolidating support bases and shaping the national narrative.

As political temperatures gradually rise, attention is likely to center on economic performance, governance, and coalition-building strategies that could define the next electoral contest.
