Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku strongly rejected ODM leader Oburu Oginga's suggestion to negotiate for the deputy president position. He stated that the position is currently filled and not open for debate.

During a thanksgiving service in Mbeere North, Embu County, Ruku told ODM-affiliated leaders to stop making repeated, needless requests for the position.

He stated that the government is stable and concentrating on its goals, encouraging politicians to avoid stirring up trouble unnecessarily.

Ruku insisted that Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has President William Ruto's complete backing and is still actively involved in the government.

He thinks the Ruto-Kindiki partnership is working and shouldn't be disturbed by early political deals.

Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire also spoke up for the deputy president, saying he has been key in pushing development projects in the Mt Kenya East area. She called on leaders to support him instead of participating in divisive politics.

These comments come after Oburu recently stated in Mombasa that ODM would pursue the deputy president position in any future coalition.

He claimed that the party's nationwide support warrants a bigger role in the government.

Kindiki has already dismissed rumors about his position, telling supporters in Meru County that they shouldn't worry.

He has asked leaders to reduce the political noise and not pull the country into early campaigning for the 2027 elections.

A number of leaders from the Mt. Kenya area, like lawmakers connected to the ruling coalition, agree with Ruku, calling ODM's requests unrealistic.

They maintain that the current administration is operating properly and is still focused on development, not who will be next in power.
