Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga stirred political debate on Thursday during a public function in Kiambu County attended by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.

Addressing residents, Kahiga declared that his primary mission was to ensure the people of Nyeri receive their fair share of development from President William Ruto’s administration before its term concludes.

He told the crowd that the remaining period of the current government was limited and emphasized his determination to secure tangible benefits for his constituents. His remarks drew loud cheers from attendees but also caught several leaders off guard.

Notably, Kahiga did not pledge support for President Ruto in the upcoming 2027 General Election.

His carefully chosen words appeared to signal possible political realignments as the country gradually shifts focus toward the next polls.

Analysts suggest the governor’s statement may reflect growing uncertainty within sections of the political class about the government’s future prospects.

Although he avoided mentioning any specific opposition alliance or figure, Kahiga stressed that his loyalty lies with the people of Nyeri and their development priorities.

What was intended to be a forum highlighting government projects quickly evolved into a politically charged moment, fueling fresh discussion about emerging alliances in the Mt Kenya region.
