'Am a UDA Elected Senator' Gachagua Loyalist Says, Reveals How Ruto's Changes Forced Him To DCP Side

A United Democratic Alliance (UDA) elected senator has publicly declared that he no longer identifies with the party’s current direction, blaming what he describes as a sharp shift in leadership style and priorities under President William Ruto.

The senator, widely known as a loyalist of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, said he sought his mandate on the UDA ticket but now feels politically displaced.

According to him, the ideals that defined the party during the campaign period have steadily faded, replaced by what he views as inconsistency and silence on key grassroots concerns.

He has pointed to the 2022 campaign season, when UDA positioned itself as a champion of ordinary Kenyans, particularly small-scale traders, boda boda riders, and hustlers.

At the time, party leaders spoke passionately about economic empowerment and inclusivity. Today, the senator argues, that messaging has all but disappeared from national discourse.

The lawmaker also criticized what he termed as constant political metamorphosis, suggesting that the administration’s evolving alliances and policy tone have left some original supporters confused about where the government stands.

In his view, the line between government and opposition politics has become blurred, creating uncertainty within the ruling coalition itself.

It is this perceived shift, he explained, that pushed him toward the DCP camp, which he believes better reflects the original vision he campaigned on.

While maintaining that he was duly elected on a UDA ticket, the senator insists his loyalty lies with principles rather than party labels.

His remarks are likely to deepen simmering tensions within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, where internal disagreements have increasingly played out in public.

As political realignments gather momentum, the coming months may reveal whether this is an isolated protest or the beginning of a broader rebellion within the ruling ranks.
