A family in Mbeere has rejected a woman who spent 25 years in prison for killing her husband.
According to reports, Agnes Ngeti was arrested over the death of her husband and sentenced to 25 years in prison by the judge.
The judge, speaking during the ruling, said the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that she killed him. She was sent to Embu Woma Prison, where she spent 25 years.
On March 5, 2026, what was supposed to be a ceremony turned into confusion after her family refused to welcome her back home.
As witnessed in some cases, no one was at the gate to welcome her.
Agnes, speaking after being rejected by her family, said she was disappointed.
She asked them for forgiveness, stating she'd learnt her lesson and would never repeat the same mistake. "I'd like to issue an apology to my family. I'm a changed person. I won't repeat the same mistake again. I've learnt my lessons," she said.
According to police, her family said she wasn't welcome and they want nothing to do with her.
Police revealed she was taken to a shelter as efforts continue to find her a place to stay.
The incident highlights the challenges former convicts face after being released back into society.
