Former Nyeri Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has reacted after Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru claimed that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and people close to him have been trying to reach President William Ruto.

The issue came up during a public meeting where Waiguru was speaking about the political situation ahead of the next general election.

While addressing residents, the governor said that the political camp linked to Gachagua has recently been trying to reconnect with President Ruto.

According to her remarks, some of Gachagua’s allies have been reaching out privately and asking to be included in discussions with the President.

She said the group is also ready to reduce the harsh political attacks that have been directed at her and other leaders in the ruling side.

The governor also used the moment to caution residents about the kind of leaders they elect in the future.

She advised them not to vote for a county governor who comes from the opposition, saying such a move may not help the county work well with the national government.

Waiguru further argued that the political party linked to Gachagua has been losing support in recent opinion polls. She said the declining popularity has pushed some of the leaders in that camp to look for ways to reconnect with President Ruto.

After the video of the governor’s speech began spreading on social media, Wambugu responded through a Facebook post. In his reaction, the former lawmaker said the governor only confirmed something he had been telling his followers for a long time.

His remarks added another voice to the ongoing political debate about the relationship between Gachagua’s camp and President Ruto’s leadership.
