A Nairobi father is appealing for help after losing his job and being abandoned by his wife, leaving him to care for their young daughter on his own.

Evans Moriango shared the challenges he faces, saying he struggles to provide even basic necessities for his child.

Evans said he moved from Thika to Mombasa hoping to find work. He secured a job, but it lasted only three months before he was laid off.

With no savings or alternative support, he returned to Nairobi, relying on kind boda boda riders who helped him pay for the trip.

Life in the city has been extremely difficult. Evans said he and his daughter, Mitchelle, have slept on the streets at times, and some of their few belongings were stolen.

“We have nothing right now,” he said. Despite actively searching for work, Evans has not found any opportunities, leaving him dependent on the generosity of strangers to survive.

Returning to his village is not an option. He said his family had previously turned him away, and he must fend for himself.

He also shared the heartbreak of his wife leaving when Mitchelle was still an infant. “She left because I had no money. I have to do everything I can to make sure my child is fed and safe,” he explained.

The bond between father and daughter is strong. Mitchelle often comforts her father during difficult moments. Evans says all he wants is a chance to find a job so he can provide a stable life for her.

County official Geoffrey Mosiria has stepped in to help. He has offered to place Mitchelle in a children’s home temporarily while assisting Evans to find employment. Mosiria has also urged anyone with job opportunities to come forward and support the family.

Evans’ story is a reminder of the struggles many single parents face in Nairobi. Unemployment and abandonment make daily life extremely difficult, and the need for community support has never been clearer. With a helping hand, Evans hopes to rebuild his life and give his daughter the care she deserves.
