Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua today told President William Ruto to stay away from Mt Kenya.
Gachagua said Ruto has been unfair to people in the region. He claimed that police have been sent to destroy people’s property at night and that he himself has been attacked during church services and political rallies.
Speaking to journalists, Gachagua said, “The people of Mt Kenya will not accept being attacked. Their homes and churches must be safe.” He said the President is trying to scare the people and stop them from supporting him.
Gachagua warned that the people of Mt Kenya have always been important in Kenya’s politics and should not be ignored or threatened. He said it is wrong for the government to use police against ordinary citizens or political leaders.
Analysts say this fight shows growing tension between Gachagua and President Ruto. Both leaders are trying to win support in Mt Kenya ahead of the next elections. The accusations may make the area more tense if not handled carefully.
President Ruto has not yet responded to Gachagua’s claims. But Gachagua told him to focus on helping the country instead of targeting certain communities. He said, “We want peace. We want our people to live safely and freely.”
The former deputy president also asked the people of Mt Kenya to stay calm and united. He said they should not be afraid and should stand up for their rights.
