Sombre mood engulfed Chalicha village, Kamukuywa sub-county in Bungoma county as a high school student was being laid to rest in an emotional send-off.
According to the source, the deceased identified as Eugene Simiyu Wekesa aged seventeen years old was a form four student at Chesamisi Boys High School.
Report indicate that Eugene was taken ill in school but eventually died on the way to school. He died shortly after the school administration called his father to go and pick him up from school because he was unwell.
They were allegations of negligence and delayed medical response as the community questioned school emergency protocols. Chesamisi Boys High School principal Mr Protus Ndombi faced a lot of critism for lack of transparency amid family's fight for closure.
According to the boy's paternal uncle Samuel Makori, the family sought an urgent audience with the principal, the boarding master, the class teacher and the school nurse but the staff members dissapearred from the compound upon spotting the bereaved family.
Hundreds of mourners gathered at Eugene father's farm to bid farewell to the departed soul. The family urged investigations to be carried out.
The late student was eulogized as a brilliant student with a bright future. He was a polite and kind person who maintained a good rapport with fellow students.
His presence will be dearly missed.
