Siaya Governor James Orengo on Friday received a warm welcome in Ugunja as he held a series of rallies in the area.

The governor was seen alighting from his vehicle and walking along busy roads, accompanied by hundreds of supporters who cheered and chanted slogans in his support.

The procession briefly brought activity in the town to a standstill, highlighting his strong influence in the region.

Orengo’s tour comes just a day before President William Ruto visits Siaya County to launch and commission several development projects in the county.

The governor, who has been vocal in opposing Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid, is among key leaders allied to the Linda Mwananchi ODM faction.

Meanwhile, during his visit, President Ruto is expected to launch the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) extension project before proceeding to Ugunja, where he will lay the foundation stone for the Yala Affordable Housing Project.

He is also set to break ground for the construction of the Usenge Pier, a project being implemented by the Kenya Ports Authority.

On Tuesday, the Head of State is expected to return to Siaya County for additional engagements, including the commissioning of Bar Ober ESP Market and the launch of the Siaya Affordable Housing Project.

During his visit in Busia, Ruto told off MP Oundo Mudenyo for calling him a Wantam. He said also challenged him to show what he has done to his constituency.
