Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that police officers linked to the controversial Witima ACK Church incident have been moved from their stations instead of facing immediate legal action.
Speaking during a media briefing, Gachagua said the officers were transferred as part of administrative action following the incident. He indicated that this step was taken instead of pursuing criminal charges at this stage.
The Witima incident in Othaya, Nyeri County, has drawn strong political reactions in recent weeks. Opposition leaders have accused security agencies of using excessive force during a church gathering, raising concerns about accountability within the police service.
At the same time, changes within the police command structure have seen several senior officers redeployed.
Among them is George Seda, who previously served as Nairobi Regional Police Commander. He has since been moved to another region in what authorities described as a routine reshuffle meant to improve operations.
However, Gachagua linked the transfers directly to the Witima events. He alleged that senior officers played a role in enabling the incident and suggested that the reshuffle was not just a normal administrative move.
According to him, more than ten officers connected to the case have been dispersed to different locations across the country.
The matter has also taken a legal and political turn. In February, opposition leaders announced plans to pursue private legal action against several police officers and two Members of Parliament believed to be connected to the incident. This move signaled growing pressure for accountability outside official state processes.
