A vehicle was reportedly swept away while attempting to cross flooded waters near the Athi River area in the Joska–Matungulu area of Machakos County on Friday evening, according to information circulating on social media.

Posts shared online alleged that the incident occurred after heavy rainfall that had been experienced in the region, causing water levels in nearby rivers and streams to rise significantly.

The vehicle was reportedly trying to pass through a section of the road that had been overtaken by fast-moving floodwaters.

According to social media reports, the driver is said to have attempted to cross the flooded section despite the strong current.

Moments later, the vehicle was allegedly carried away by the rushing water, raising concern among residents and motorists who were present at the scene.

Witness accounts circulating online indicate that the situation caused panic among people nearby, as they watched the vehicle being swept downstream.

However, details about the number of people who may have been inside the vehicle at the time of the incident remain unclear.

Local residents and traders from the Joska market area reportedly warned motorists and members of the public to remain cautious, especially during periods of heavy rainfall.

The traders allegedly urged people living near rivers and other low-lying areas to avoid crossing flooded roads or attempting to drive through flowing water, noting that such conditions can quickly become dangerous.

The reports further suggest that the recent heavy rains have led to rising water levels in several parts of Machakos County, increasing the risk of flooding in areas close to rivers and drainage channels.

Authorities had not immediately issued an official statement regarding the reported incident by the time the information was circulating online.

Residents were nonetheless encouraged, according to social media posts, to prioritize safety and avoid flooded sections of roads until water levels subside.
