Earlier, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s speech was cut short at the ODM People’s NDC at Ufungamano House when police moved in to evict attendees from the Linda Mwananchi team.
The disruption lasted a few minutes before participants forced the police outside, allowing the event to continue.
At the meeting, Sifuna accused President William Ruto of undermining ODM and betraying the late party leader Raila Odinga’s vision.
“What Ruto has done to my party, ODM, I can speak for Baba: he will never forgive Ruto for what he has done to ODM. ODM is unrecognisable; we used to be the party that fights for the people,” Sifuna said.
The senator made the remarks following his removal as ODM secretary general and criticised the party’s decision to endorse Ruto in the 2027 elections. He said the move was made without consulting ordinary members and went against what Raila Odinga wanted for the party.
Sifuna added that ODM was built to defend ordinary Kenyans and fight for fairness and justice. “Today, we are very different from what we used to be,” he said.
Political observers say the disruption and Sifuna’s remarks show rising tensions within ODM, with some members feeling sidelined as the party moves in a direction they do not support.
As the 2027 elections approach, ODM faces the challenge of keeping its leaders and grassroots members united while balancing the party’s legacy with the current political reality.
