A fresh political storm is brewing within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), as Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna openly questioned recent leadership claims involving Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga.

His remarks, made shortly after returning from India, have added fuel to an already tense situation inside the party.

Speaking in a charged tone, Sifuna expressed disbelief at reports that Oburu had taken over as party leader.

He posed a direct question to supporters and critics alike, asking who exactly made that decision and whether members had been consulted.

His words reflected frustration and confusion, hinting at deeper divisions within ODM.

The disagreement is not happening in isolation. ODM has been facing internal wrangles in recent months, especially following leadership changes that saw Sifuna removed from his role as Secretary General earlier this year.

The decision, made by the party’s National Executive Committee, was linked to concerns over discipline and internal unity.

At the center of the dispute is the process used to elevate Oburu Odinga. While he has been serving as the acting party leader after Raila Odinga’s death, questions have been raised about whether proper procedures were followed.

Sifuna has previously argued that such a transition should be handled through a formal delegates’ conference, not through internal arrangements.

His latest remarks suggest that he still does not recognize the process that led to Oburu’s leadership position. By asking whether party members were involved, Sifuna is pushing for accountability and transparency within ODM structures.
